Introduction: Anyone who has ever tried cleaning window blinds knows how tedious the task can be. Dust accumulates on each slat, and cleaning them feels like an endless chore. But what if there was a way to clean your blinds quickly, without all the fuss? My Nana had a brilliant secret for keeping her blinds spotless with minimal effort. In this article, I’m going to share her clever cleaning hack that will save you time and energy—so you can spend more time enjoying your home and less time cleaning.
Ingredients:
1 old pair of socks (preferably cotton)
1 small bowl of white vinegar
1 tablespoon of olive oil or baby oil
A sturdy coat hanger (or a similar piece of wire)
A bit of patience (just a little!)
Instructions:
Prepare the Sock Cleaner: Start by mixing equal parts of white vinegar and olive oil (or baby oil) in a small bowl. The vinegar helps to break down dust and grime, while the oil provides a gentle shine to the blinds after cleaning.
Sock Setup: Take an old cotton sock and dip it into the vinegar and oil mixture. Wring it out so it’s damp but not soaking wet. The sock acts as your cleaning tool, ensuring that your blinds won’t get overly wet.
Create Your Cleaning Tool: Attach the sock to a coat hanger or similar wire, creating a loop where you can easily slide the sock back and forth across the blinds. This setup allows you to clean multiple slats at once with ease.
Dust and Clean: Hold the coated sock over each slat of the blind and slide it gently back and forth. The sock will pick up dust and grime from the slats without spreading it around. The mixture will also leave your blinds shiny, while the sock’s fabric will help remove built-up dust without damage.
Repeat: Continue this method for all the blinds in the room, and you’ll see how quickly and effortlessly they’re cleaned.
