An Amish friend of mine brought these delightful apple fritter-style treats—affectionately called “chaps”—to our community potluck, and they were an instant hit! Crispy on the outside, soft and spiced on the inside, these hand-held goodies are perfect for sharing at gatherings or savoring with your morning coffee.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp salt
2 eggs
½ cup buttermilk
⅓ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 medium apples (peeled and finely diced)
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
