DIY Liquid Laundry Soap: A Simple and Effective Recipe with Just 3 Ingredients

Introduction: Laundry day doesn’t have to be complicated or filled with chemical-laden products. With just three simple ingredients, you can make an effective, eco-friendly, and budget-friendly liquid laundry soap that cleans and softens clothes naturally. This homemade laundry detergent works wonders for all types of fabrics, from cotton to delicate materials, while keeping your skin safe from harsh chemicals. Whether you’re looking to save money, reduce your environmental footprint, or simply want to know exactly what’s in your detergent, this easy-to-make recipe will provide you with a fresh, clean laundry experience without the fuss.

Ingredients:

1 bar of soap (preferably a natural soap like Castile soap or any mild soap)
1 cup of washing soda (sodium carbonate)
1 cup of borax powder
Water (about 4 gallons)
Instructions:

Grate the Soap: Start by grating the soap bar into fine pieces using a cheese grater or a food processor. This will help the soap dissolve more easily when combined with the water, ensuring it integrates smoothly into the final detergent.

Dissolve the Soap: In a large pot, heat 4 gallons of water over medium heat. Add the grated soap to the water and stir occasionally until the soap completely dissolves. This should take around 10-15 minutes, so be patient and continue stirring to avoid any clumping.

Add the Washing Soda and Borax: Once the soap is fully dissolved, add the washing soda and borax to the pot. Stir until both powders are completely dissolved into the liquid. These two ingredients will act as the cleaning agents that help lift dirt and stains from your clothes.

Cool and Store: Once all the ingredients are well combined, remove the pot from the heat and allow the mixture to cool. The soap may thicken as it cools, so you can stir it occasionally to prevent it from becoming too solid. Once cool, pour the liquid soap into storage containers (large mason jars, empty detergent bottles, or any suitable containers you have at home).

Use the Soap: For each load of laundry, shake the container well before use. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of this homemade detergent to your washing machine, depending on the size of the load and how soiled the clothes are.
