I’m here because your soil needs me. The best thing you can do is let me grow without disturbing me! Once I’ve fixed the soil, I promise I’ll disappear on my own.
If you try to pull me out by the roots, no matter how careful you are, I’ll come back twice as strong — just until your soil is healthy again.
You can even tell how much I’m helping by how I grow: if my leaves lie flat on the ground, I’m just getting started; if they’re all reaching up, I’m well on my way.
A fun fact: I’m one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, announcing the change of seasons!
During hot days, I open my flowers wide, but when it cools down in the evening, I close them quickly. If it’s not warm enough during the day, I might not open at all!
Oh, and my flowers are delicious for humans too! I was once called the “honey (or gold) of the poor” because my sweet flowers make tasty jams, sauces, and salads. The internet is full of recipes — check them out!
But please wait until the end of May or later to start picking, and even then, don’t pick them all — the bees and biodiversity will thank you!
P.S. I also have tons of healing properties!
