Patty Melts with Secret Sauce Recipe: A Classic Diner Favorite

1 and a half pounds of 80/20 ground beef
Thinly slice one big onion.
eight pieces of rye bread
Swiss cheese, eight slices
4-teaspoons of butter
Toss with salt and pepper.
Regarding the Recipe for the Hidden Sauce:
half a cup of mayonese
1/2 cup of ketchup
mustard, Dijon, 1 tbsp
1 tablespoon of sugar-sweetened relish
1/2 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
0.5 teaspoons of powdered garlic
Onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon
Toss with salt and pepper.
HERE are the instructions:
The First Step: Make the Secret Sauce:
The mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, sweet pickle relish, garlic powder, and onion powder should all be mixed together in a smallbowl.
Thoroughly blend all components by mixing them together.
Add salt and pepper to taste, cover, and chill until needed.
Turn the Onions into Candy:
Use a large pan set over medium heat to melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
With a touch of salt, toss in the chopped onions.
About 20 to 25 minutes into the cooking process, stir periodically, or until the onions have caramelized and become a golden brown color. Deglaze the pan with a dash of water if the onions begin to dry out.
Take the onions out of the pan and put them aside.
Get the beef patties cooked:
Separate the ground beef into four equal amounts and form into thin patties, making sure they are slightly bigger than the rye bread slices (they will cook down to a smaller size).
Rub salt and pepper over both sides of each burger.
To cook the patties to your liking, use the same pan you sautéed the onions in and fry for 3 to 4 minutes on each side over medium-high heat.
Lay the patties aside after taking them out of the pan.
Put the Patty Melts together:

On one side of each rye bread slice, spread a thin coating of the secret sauce.
Then, top four pieces of bread with a slice of Swiss cheese.
Top the cheese with a beef patty, then top it with a heaping helping of caramelized onions.
Place a second piece of Swiss cheese on top, followed by the remaining bread slices, sauce side down.
Get the Sandwiches Grilled:
Drain the pan and set it over medium heat to melt the leftover butter.
Arrange the sandwiches in a single layer and cook them in a pan, working in batches if needed.
Toast the bread for three to four minutes on each side, or until the cheese melts and the sandwiches become golden. To make sure everything grills evenly, use a spatula to gently press down.
Place the order:
Serve hot with a half of the patty melts cut in half and more secret sauce on the side.
Secrets to Flavorful Patty Melts:
Choose Your Bread: Rye is a classic and flavorful option, but sourdough or whole wheat would also work.
Melting Cheese: Allow the cheese to reach room temperature prior to sandwich assembly for the most optimal melting.
Onions Caramelized: When caramelizing onions, patience is crucial. To get a rich golden color and bring out their inherent flavor, cook them gently.
Different kinds:
For a change of pace, try a blend of cheeses such as pepper jack, provolone, and cheddar.
If you’re looking for a little spice, try adding a splash of hot sauce to the secret sauce or using spicy mustard.
An appetizing vegetarian alternative may be to use vegetable patties or grilled portobello mushrooms in place of the beef patties.
