Introduction
A washing machine is an essential appliance in every household, ensuring our clothes stay fresh and clean. However, over time, washing machines can develop an unpleasant, musty odor that lingers in the drum, leaving your laundry smelling less than fresh. These odors are often caused by the buildup of detergent residue, fabric softeners, moisture, and even mold. Fortunately, with a few simple steps, you can effectively eliminate these bad smells and restore your washing machine to its clean, fresh state. In this article, we’ll explore easy and effective methods to rid your washing machine of bad odors, ensuring your clothes come out smelling like they’ve just been washed with care.
Ingredients
2 cups white vinegar
1/4 cup baking soda
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide (optional)
Hot water
Clean microfiber cloth or sponge
Instructions
Run a Hot Wash Cycle with Vinegar:
Start by running an empty wash cycle on the hottest setting available. Pour 2 cups of white vinegar directly into the drum of the washing machine, bypassing the detergent compartment. The vinegar will help break down any soap scum, mold, or mildew that’s contributing to the bad odor.
Add Baking Soda:
Once the hot wash cycle with vinegar is complete, sprinkle 1/4 cup of baking soda directly into the drum. Run another hot water cycle to allow the baking soda to neutralize odors, clean the drum, and further eliminate any remaining residue.
Wipe Down the Interior:
After both cycles are complete, use a clean microfiber cloth or sponge to wipe down the interior of the drum, door, and rubber seals. Pay close attention to areas where moisture can linger, such as the door seal and detergent drawer. This will help remove any grime or residue that the cycles didn’t fully address.
Optional Step (Hydrogen Peroxide):
