Materials Needed:
- White vinegar or bleach
- Baking soda
- Microfiber cloth
- Toothbrush (optional)
- Water
- Cleaning rag or sponge
Steps to Clean Your Washing Machine:
1. Clean the Drum and Gasket:
- Front-Loading Machines:
- Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
- Spray the inside of the drum and the rubber gasket around the door with the vinegar solution.
- Use a microfiber cloth dampened with vinegar solution to wipe down these areas thoroughly.
- If there is mold or stubborn residue, scrub gently with an old toothbrush dipped in vinegar solution.
- Leave the door open to air dry after cleaning.
- Top-Loading Machines:
- Fill the washer with hot water to the highest level.
- Add 1-2 cups of white vinegar or bleach (never mix vinegar and bleach together) directly into the water.
- Let the machine agitate for a few minutes, then pause the cycle and let it sit for an hour to penetrate the grime.
- After an hour, close the lid and let the cycle complete.
