Introduction: We all love the look of a clean, shiny floor. Whether it’s hardwood, tile, or laminate, a polished floor can make a room feel fresh and inviting. However, achieving that perfect gleam without spending a fortune on commercial cleaners is possible—thanks to a simple, affordable kitchen staple: baking soda. Known for its versatility and powerful cleaning properties, baking soda is not only a great deodorizer but also a natural floor polish. In this article, we’ll show you how to use baking soda to give your floors that immaculate shine, without harmful chemicals.
Ingredients:
Baking Soda (1-2 tablespoons per area) – The key ingredient that will help clean and polish the floor.
Warm Water (1-2 cups) – To dilute the baking soda and create a gentle cleaning solution.
A Soft Cloth or Mop – For applying the solution to the floor and buffing it to a shine.
White Vinegar (Optional) – To boost cleaning power, especially on stubborn stains or grease.
Essential Oils (Optional) – For added fragrance, choose essential oils like lavender or lemon.
Instructions:
Create the Baking Soda Solution:
In a clean bucket or bowl, mix 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1-2 cups of warm water. Stir well until the baking soda dissolves completely. This mixture will act as your cleaning and polishing solution.
For added cleaning power, you can add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to the mixture. This helps break down stubborn dirt and grease.
Apply the Solution to the Floor:
Dip a soft cloth or mop into the solution. Wring out any excess liquid to prevent pooling or over-saturation on the floor.
Begin wiping or mopping the floor in sections, starting from one corner and working your way towards the exit. Make sure to apply the solution evenly and gently.
Buff the Floor to a Shine:
After cleaning the floor with the baking soda solution, use a dry, soft cloth to buff the floor. Buffing will bring out the natural shine and leave the floor looking polished. Apply gentle pressure, and work in circular motions for the best results.
Continue buffing the entire floor until it gleams and is free of streaks.
